Journeymen is an extraodinary non-profit success story. For the past ten years we have been developing a model program that can be replicated on a world wide level. We have successfully created this with limited funding. It is now time to create the abundance to expand our capacity and bring this program to the millions of boys calling for our help.
Yes, Journeymen is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
Most of Journeymen's staff are volunteers. All of the costs incurred are for activities, camps, insurance, and administration expenses like mentor background checks.
Currently, boys in the United States are not doing as well as are girls. They are falling behind academically and socially. They are the ones who commit offenses like school shootings. They end up filling our prisons.
Effective mentorship has been shown to have huge effects in turning around academic performance, reducing recidivism, and helping boys to become effective members of society.
Boys need Rites of Passage, they have been conducted in virtually every indigenous society on earth. This is because boys come into an energy in adolescence that must be positively channeled into society.
Boys will often initiate themselves and each other into gangs and other forms of destructive behaviors. They do this because boys need clear guidelines for how to succeed. They hunger to know their place in the circle, and to be given opportunities for recognition and success.
Journeymen can gives boys all of this and more; A circle of powerful and caring men who have a mission of service to community.
